Dear HarmonySite administrator,
In case you're not aware, the European Union has new legislation in place, called GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation - www.eugdpr.org), designed to make online users' personal data safer, more private, and more under the control of the individual. Any tech company that does business in Europe, and stores personal information about users, is required to adhere to this new legislation. HarmonySite is one such company, so we have been busy over the last few weeks ensuring that our product is GDPR-compliant.
We have made the following changes to our software...
- At the very bottom of the page, under the HarmonySite logo, you will find two new links: One for the HarmonySite Data Protection Policy, and another for the Privacy Policy. The privacy policy link has your group's name on it, because your group also has responsibilities for the privacy of your members' personal data (as well as data pertaining to other visitors to your site). Those responsibilities are shared between your group and HarmonySite. So we've written you a privacy policy, and encourage you to tailor it to your own group's specifics. The privacy policy page can be modified/updated by you - in the usual way (ensure you're logged in, visit the page, and click the little "edit" button in the bottom-right corner of the page). If you don't see a HarmonySite logo - or those two new links - at the bottom of your page, that's because you asked us to remove the logo.
- The "New Member Wizard" process now no longer asks you to check the details of the new member you're entering against the wider HarmonySite database. This results in increased privacy for your existing members' personal data.
- When people purchase something (merchandise, event tickets, etc) via your website's shopping cart (if you have it enabled), then before they can finalise their order/booking/donation, they are required to tick a box to say that they agree with the aforementioned privacy policy (with a link to allow them to read said policy). The same tickbox is required to be ticked if they attempt to subscribe themselves to your "friends" mailing list.
Please let your members know about these changes and the new policy documents.
Cheers,
Mark Virtue
